Top Trends in the Healthcare Industry

Health care is one of a handful of fields still growing in this country despite the recession. Historically the health care industry has been fairly stable and consistent and offers new employees a “living wage,” as well as benefits and pension plans. Additionally, the health care industry still offers a great deal of prestige and respect, and many opportunities for advancement.

Physical therapy positions are in large demand nationwide and are one of the careers in the health industry that allows for travel in some cases, making physical therapy one of the current health care trends. Most health care facilities around the country have temporary staffing positions available for physical therapists. Physical therapy also has a wide range of specialties; partly because a physical therapist may be working with individuals of different age groups, from infants to the elderly.

Since anyone of any age can suffer from a debilitating injury or illness that may impair their ability to move or function, a physical therapist must be flexible and prepared to work with a diverse group of potential patients.

Another reason that physical therapy is a trend in the health care industry is there are not as many barriers to practicing it independently as there are with some positions in the industry. It also can be practiced in a variety of settings such as in the private residence of a patient, hospices and health and fitness centers.

It is for these and other reasons that positions in physical therapy are more sought after by young medical professionals, rather than the more traditional roles in the industry.
